About Navigation for Women
My name is Clare Kelly and I own and run the courses for Navigation for Women. I am a qualified Mountain Leader and National Navigation Award Scheme tutor and have worked in the outdoor industry for 20 years. I began my career working as a guide for Exodus, an adventure travel company. While with Exodus, I led guided walks in Italy, as well as Nepal, Morocco, Mexico, Belize and Guatemala, Austria, and Spain.
From 2007 to 2018, I worked as a guide for WalkingWomen Ltd, a company offering women-only guided walking holidays. I have guided holidays in Italy, the Peak District, the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, the Cairngorms and Nepal. From 2012 to 2018, I was employed as WalkingWomen’s office manager and combined this role with my guiding.
In 2019, I decided to take the plunge and set up my own women's walking holiday business, Her on a Hill, which is due to launch in the Spring. Watch this space!
I am a keen walker although I came to it late in life - I didn't walk anywhere until my very late 20s. I really love teaching navigation and helping women to develop new skills, gain confidence in their map and compass reading and put these skills into practice in the hills of the UK and beyond.
